Polače is the largest and safest harbor on the island of Mljet, surrounded by small islets. Probably it is also the oldest settlement on the Island, with great cultural heritage from roman times. Polače is a set of cultural and historical sights, which include a Roman palace, a fortification complex, and Old-Christian basilicas. These remarkable sights are located within a lively bay protected from wind. Because of its sheltered position, Polače is very popular bay among sailors and yachtsman as an anchorage. The bay itself is 5.6 km long and about 4 km wide. Polače is also one of the ferry ports on Mljet.
